Why can kids learn to ski before snowboarding?

mondays-with-mary (mondays-with-mary)All children do develop differently, however snowboarding requires more fine motor skill that skiing initially does. I would not recommend kids take up snowboarding in a group lesson until they are at least six because they may struggle. Learning to snowboard is challenging. You could consider starting your child earlier in a one-on-one private lesson.  I have seen a few four and five year old children who can snowboard. However, that is not the norm.

I would recommend that parents start their children skiing if younger than 6, and then let them try snowboarding the following year.
