Introducing Kids Signature 3 Snowboard School

One of the most commonly asked questions from parents is why don't you offer group snowboard school for kids younger than 6. Snowboarding is harder to learn than skiing, and requires a higher level of fine motor skills and strength, which many kids have not developed by the age of 5. Younger children need to keep moving and because snowboarding takes longer to become mobile, they can lose interest fast and get very frustrated, especially if they have already been mobile as a skier.

However, what we have found is that parents are eager to get their kids started in snowboarding, and they enroll their 5 year olds in the Kids Signature 5 snowboard program (designed for children ages 6-14). The younger kids can't always handle the longer hours on snow and may spoil the small group dynamic for others.

Taking all of these factors into account, we have decided to demo a new ski school product of Signature Jr. Snowboard School. This program will allow kids ages 5 and 6 years old to experience an introduction to snowboarding. This program will move at a slower pace than Kids Signature 5 snowboard school, with just a few hours on the snow in the morning and afternoon. Just as Kids Signature 3 ski school, the snowboard school will be a full day program that includes lift tickets, board and boots, lunch and play time.

The Kids Jr. Snowboard Program will be a great alternative to a private lesson that still allows your child to have social interaction with children their age. It's important how a child feels when trying something new. A smaller class environment (no more than 3 kids to 1 instructor) will increase their chance for success and decrease the chance that they will get discouraged. Once a Jr. Snowboard participant can link their heel and toe side turns, we can move them up to a Signature 5 snowboard class.

I'd like to remind parents that this program is designed for never-evers and first-timers. It's an Introduction to snowboarding, and as such we hope that you will have realistic expectations for your children. While we do expect great success, snowboarding takes longer to learn at any age.

This program will be available March 13th – April 2nd 2011. There is Limited Availability so please call 1-800-227-2754 to make reservations. This product is not available for sale on our “One Store”.
