Ask A Snowmama: Birthdays in Park City
I am planning a trip to the Park City for the first time with our family of 5. We have 3 kids: 14, 11, and 5. My daughter will be celebrating her 12th birthday up there. Any suggestions? We are from Hawaii and don't know where to start. Please help. Thanks!

Thank you for submitting your question. You came to the right place! We travel out to Park City every year from the East Coast, and it just so happens that most of my kids birthdays fall at the end of December/beginning of January, so we have celebrated many a birthday out there.
I asked my kids what they loved to do in Park City on those birthdays. Their #1 choice is to spend the day skiing on the mountain, but after that it got a lot tougher because there are so many choices. They rattled off a few, and here are our suggestions for a perfect birthday:
- Tubing at Gorgoza Tubing Park . Extra fun at night for the whole family. There is a warming hut where you can bring a pizza from Maxwell's in the Redstone Shopping Plaza. Of course, Maxwell's is also always a favorite of ours for dine-in as well.
- Bowling and dinner at Jupiter Bowl, also located in the Redstone Plaza. This is no ordinary bowling alley....the atmosphere is wonderful, the food really great. Reserve a lane maybe a day or so ahead; it can get crowded at times. There is a dine-in restaurant there or you can eat at the lane on comfy leather sofas.
- Reserve a special dinner at either The Snowed Inn Sleigh Company located at Park City Mountain Resort or Fireside Dining at Empire Lodge, located at Deer Valley Resort. Both are special and unique in their own way. Check the menu to see which better serves your needs and make sure to reserve these now as the dates fill up quickly. You can always cancel if you change your mind as the date approaches.
There are endless other activities and dining options, too many to mention. For a more comprehensive list, check out the Visit Park City website. From dog sledding to pottery painting to snowmobiling, there is sure to be an activity that would be a highlight for any birthday. As for restaurants, some of our family favorites include Vinto, Wahso, Butcher's Chop House, Bistro 412, and Cafe Terigo, to name a few. I'm sure if you called ahead to any one of these restaurants, and many more in town, they would make your daughter's birthday extra special.
Lastly, if you need a cake or some cupcakes, there are good bakeries in each of the local grocery stores in town, Smith's, Fresh Market, and The Market. If you are looking for an ice cream cake, my kids favorite is Coldstone Creamery located in the Redstone Shopping plaza. For gourmet cupcakes, try LuAnn's Cupcakes.
On a final note, all of these options I have listed are either in the center of town or only minutes away, most by free public transportation. If you need any last-minute gifts, there is plenty of shopping in town as well to find a great gift for a 12 year old girl.
I'm sure you are going to have an amazing vacation in Park City, and your daughter will have an unforgettable birthday!
