Après-ski (the French term for after skiing), usually means dinner, drinking & even a little dancing. But, when you're on a winter vacation with the entire family, après-skiing takes on a whole new meaning. So here's my family-friendly approach to après-skiing the next time you are on one your fabulous family ski holidays...

Hot Chocolate Floats are a quick & easy way to "wind down" after a long day on the mountain.

Hot Chocolate Floats How-To

Step One: Whip up a batch of your favorite hot chocolate. Personally, I'm a big fan of Hershey's "Hot Cocoa For a Crowd" recipe. But, grocery-store-bought, packaged hot chocolate works great too. But, if you want to try your hand at making hot chocolate from "scratch" (trust me, it's super easy), this recipe is sure to please the masses.

Hershey's "Hot Cocoa For a Crowd" Recipe

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 gallon milk
1 1/4 cups Hershey's Cocoa
3/4 cup hot water
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Mix sugar, cocoa, salt & water together in a large saucepan, slowly cooking over medium until the mixture boils. Stirring constantly, allow the mixture to boil for 2 minutes & then slowly add mild. While continuing to stir, slowly re-heat the mixture. Once the hot cocoa has reached the ideal temperature remove from heat, & stir in vanilla.
Store the remaining hot cocoa in the now-empty milk jug.

Step Two: Fill mugs about 2/3 full of hot chocolate

Step Three: Add just a touch (okay, maybe a double scoop) of your favorite ice cream. Vanilla or Mint Chocolate Chip are our family's favorites.

Rich & decadent hot chocolate & the creaminess of an extra large scoop of ice cream? Definitely the ultimate family-friendly-après-ski activity. The only thing that could make it any better? A couple of homemade chocolate chip cookies on the side.

Better wipe my mouth, I'm drooling.
