Good Luggage Matters
I travel a lot, and have come to a conclusion investing in good luggage is worth the money. Ideally it is an investment that lasts for a lifetime – or at least for a decade. As you can imagine, I have learned this the hard way; trying to “save money” but buying less inexpensive luggage, only to realize the luggage didn’t last a lifetime. Actually not even a year. Here are some of my favorite luggage pieces for travel. The good thing about all of these – I use them year round, from ski trips to business trips to beach vacations.
BRIGGS & RILEY
Briggs & Riley BRX Explore 22 Upright Suitcase
It’s $290 and may seem steep for a carry-on size bag, but let me explain: This bag is top quality, only 7.5lbs making it super light, yet it has plenty of space and protection for your gear. I love the extra pockets and how easy it is to wheel, and it also has a padded sleeve for laptop – or ski goggles or even fragile souvenirs you want to protect.
The best part: A lifetime guarantee. You can not beat that! So when I say luggage for a lifetime – Briggs & Riley IS luggage for a lifetime! They have plenty of other styles and sizes available.
I have two favorite bags from Osprey Packs.
The Osprey Packs Sojourn 25 Wheeled Convertible Backpack
It easily fits clothing for two for a long weekend or four day ski trip. It’s super easy to wheel, but this bag also turns into a backpack if you take it to summer cabin, camping or ski lodge not accessible by car. Yes – from wheels to a backpack, and this one is also ultra light to start with.
I have been using mine for two years, and it still looks brand new. In fact our family likes this bag so much that we have two of them. We also just recently traveled to Disney World for five days with family of five, and we had two of these and the Briggs & Riley and that’s it – for family of five! This wheeled convertible backpack is worth the $258.95
My other favorite Osprey Pack backpack is the Osprey Packs Flapjill Pack ($78.95)
It is the most comfortable backpack I’ve ever had, it’s awesome for skiing or hiking, or other sports, and it’s a great travel bag as a carry on. It has a laptop sleeve and plenty of pockets, but the carrying comfort is probably the best this has to offer. It could be a little bit more spacious – but then again it might be too bulky for sports. For fashionistas; this bag comes in three different colors and all of them come with changeable straps if you want to match the bag with your outfit or personalize it a little bit.
Swiss Army may be known for their Swiss knives, but their backpacks and bags are high quality and perfect for any type of traveling. Plenty of pockets, including protective pockets for items like electronics, ski goggles, camera etc. Many of the backpacks are well padded and also comfortable for sports like skiing or hiking. The best part is they go from sports to every day use.
