First Christmas Trip to Park City

Santa park city (santa-park-city)Merry Christmas to you!

Last Christmas was our first Christmas away from home. We were lucky enough to be in Park City for the holidays--the perfect mountain town where you feel the Christmas sprit everywhere.

Seeing how much snow is falling in Park City now, I wish we were there this holiday as well. Here are some of my tips if you are heading to the mountains for a holiday getaway:

I bought some edible gifts like fruit and cheese baskets and sent those directly to the vacation condo where we were staying. It was nice to make it feel like home and make every one feel welcome with the gifts waiting. I think little things like that were important for making it feel more homey, especially since it was our first Christmas away.

I didn't know how the kids were going to feel about hearing that Santa was going to leave gifts at home or that the trip was their “big” gift. Still, I only packed gifts that we needed during the trip , like new sweaters, hats, ski socks or books we could read in the condo or on the flight home. I I'm glad I did it this way, I don't think I could have survived carrying any more stuff we already had!

Shopping on Park City Main Street (shopping-park-city-main-street)SHOP AT PARK CITY
There are also so many great stores on the Main Street at Park City where you can holiday shop once you arrive. My favorite stores are those that sell gear from Roots, Marmot and Roxy. You’ll also find a great selection of fashion boutiques for any style. Don't forget to stop by the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Store for treats or Dolly’s Bookstore nearby .

One of our highlights was seeing Santa Claus arrive via ski lift! Keep an eye out for Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the slopes too.

We stayed at the Silver Star condos and the kitchen was amazing. We initially were excited about trying out Park City’s restaurants but after seeing the kitchen that was better equipped than mine at home, I didn’t want to leave and even hosted a small party for our local friends there. We cooked our holiday dinner-- turkey, dressing and all of the trimmings. It was not only delicious but lot more relaxing with the kids than going out.

Christmas at Park City was a trip we’ll always remember. We’re already talking about returning Christmas.

When we were just there we saw lots of families bringing trees in. I wondered if they owned the condo and therefore could store their decorations? I think I would like to spend a Christmas up there.
