Boating on the Jordanelle and Camping in a Yurt!

Posted by Donna on July 22, 2013

One summer while on our vacation in Park City we were driving around looking and exploring the beautiful mountain range and of course watching the GPS so we could document where we had been and this is when we discovered the reservoirs of Utah. For a family from Florida we tend to gravitate toward water sports and activities, so this felt like home away from home for us. We discovered that they have fishing, camping, nature trails, jet ski and boat rentals, and there are even areas to rent for big groups like family reunions.

So for the rest of the day we stayed at the Jordanelle Reservoir, rented a ski boat and went tubing with the kids. Believe it or not we were only about 15 minuntes outside of Park City. We all had the best time being in the water with the view of the mountains in the background the day was just priceless. There are concessions there also so we could have brought a picnic lunch, but we just grabbed some food there. They also have some really great nature trails for those not interested in the water or just need a break. The kids still ask when are we going back to Park City in the summer because it was so much fun. Below are some helpful links about the Jordanelle State Park and the activities they have there.

This summer I think it will be quite an experience for our family to go camping in a Yurt. Yes, I am referring to that circular object that you might have had dinner at or even seen on the mountain covered in snow. Well, at this mountain-stream-fed reservoir is Rockport State Park and they have a few of these Yurts that anyone can rent and they sleep 6-10 people. They, too have several watercrafts for rent such as ski boats, pontoon boats, sail boats, or jet skis. Mostly every weekend the locals go to Rockport for sailboat races, so if you are not interested in going into the water there might be something fun to watch. I have also heard the fishing is pretty good too. So with all of these activities to do at the park I think my vacation is almost planned for this summer. Below are the links for the rentals at Rockport and more information about the state park of Rockport.
